What is PND?

Postnatal depression is an extremely debilitating condition which affects one in ten mothers. PND may occur immediately after the birth – or many months later, and can occur after the birth of the first baby or any subsequent birth.

Postnatal depression can affect everyone in the family with many mothers experiencing their depression in different ways – some displaying disturbed sleep patterns, tearfulness or a lack of interest in their baby.  Others may suffer from panic attacks and a lack of self-esteem.

If you are suffering from PND, you may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Tiredness
  • Tearfulness
  • Lack of self esteem
  • Lack of Interest in your Baby
  • Disturbed sleep patterns
  • Panic Attacks
  • Lack of concentration
  • Despair and hopelessness
  • Negative thought processes
  • Lack of libido/sex drive
  • Irritability/mood swings
  • Anxiety
  • Changes in eating patterns
