Aileen Campbell MSP, Minister for Children and Young People, was in the Scottish Borders recently visiting PND Borders.
The Minister enjoyed a tour of East Lodge in Galashiels, the homely and comfortable house where the Service is based. It has two therapy rooms and a crèche where mothers can leave their children to play in a safe and caring environment. She was met by Val Beaver and Barbara Wright, members of the PND Borders Board, who introduced her to the team of therapists, volunteers and office staff who are based in the Unit. The Minister also had the opportunity to meet mothers who have previously benefitted from the Service.
“It was a pleasure to visit PND Borders and meet the staff and volunteers, as well as mums who have used the service,” said Aileen Campbell, Minister for Children and Young People. “The visit gave me a real insight into the high quality service provided at what can be a very difficult time for mums and their families. The Scottish Government is proud to support PND Borders with funding from the Communities and Families Fund we deliver in partnership with BIG Lottery.”
Aileen Campbell continued to say that she was hugely impressed by the professionalism of the PND Borders staff and volunteers. “Their service is an excellent example of early intervention in practice and I wish them every success for the future.”
Barbara Wright, Treasurer of PND Borders said: “We were delighted that the Minister came to see the good work we do with mothers with Postnatal Depression. It means a lot to everyone involved with the Service to have that recognition of what we do.”
And Val Beaver, PND Board Member, added, “If there are any mothers out there feeling scared and helpless, or just struggling to cope with the demands of a baby, and/or toddler, and family life, please get in touch with your Health Visitor who can refer you to PND Borders. We’ll do our best to help you.”
